The troubadour genre occupies a very special place in Haitian music. It could be described as the poor man’s konpa, since its performances, generally acoustic, require few resources. Nevertheless, it has produced famous musicians and songs. Twoubadou Makaya is a more modern version of the genre, which is unfortunately on the verge of disappearing, unable to provide a living for its few remaining practitioners.
