While this January 1st 2010 will mark at the same time a change of year and the beginning of a new decade, it is also the first anniversary of this site. One year ago FilmHaiti.com was launched without much fanfare, with only a few posted videos but a lot of ambition and many dreams. Originally designed as a simple platform archiving the products released by media firms Video Plus Productions and Imagine Haiti over the years, the project has gone beyond this simple approach, while also retaining the original goals. The site now offers a diverse and multimedia image of Haiti across various categories ranging from feature films to mere advertisements of fifteen seconds with also documentaries or short films and music videos.

The number of visitors has grown steadily. They were more than 12,000 to surf the site in December watching our films some 28,000 times. Our visitors belong in their vast majority to the Haitian diaspora in the United States and Canada. Because of our success, the needs have also increased. Our servers must now deliver hundreds of gigabytes each month to customers from around the world.

In 2010 we intend to develop some of our still embryonic categories such as the feature film category. Some films (mostly documentaries and short films) will now be produced specifically for the site and available only here.

FilmHaiti.com offers its visitors original, varied and free films that demand the availability of many human and material resources. We will make great efforts to maintain free access to all our movies. But we must emphasize that our donation campaign has not yielded encouraging results last year. We will therefore continue to sell advertisements on the site in 2010 and you may even expect a possible increase. We’d rather have your contributions help us avoid this option.

Nevertheless we remain committed to serve you throughout the year with films that we hope will both entertain and educate.
